A downloadable game

WHERE TO PLAY:

MY preferred way you play this is on GX Games, here: GX Games - Sirens Abyss

Additionally, you can download it here on itch. I used to have it playable on HTML on itch, but I forget how to get the view/camera/screen to show the whole game, so that is currently unplayable.

HOW TO PLAY

The primary objective is to get to the bottom of the ocean, find the uranium rod in the old shipwreck, and bring it back to the reactor which you will be guided to. To do all of this, you will need to find depth modules so you can safely travel deeper.

MOVEMENT (PLEASE READ)

Movement in Sirens Abyss isn't standard WASD movement. While 'A' and 'D' move the submarine left and right, 'W' and 'S' control the ballast tanks. Press 'W' to lighten the sub and decrease density; any density below 1 will make it float that much harder. The opposite goes for 'S' which will decrease density, eventually making the submarine sink.

Gold

Gold is found in the abyss and used to fund the expedition through the purchase of supplies like flares, buoys, and parts. In later updates, new upgrades and gear will also be available for purchase. I am also considering having the gold collected play a part in the density of the submarine.

TOOLS

The use of tools still needs to be fleshed out. While I currently consider this a lackluster part of the game, a major idea for it is the use of tools to manipulate your environment and unlock previously restricted areas. There are a few parts of the game where the player has to dismantle old shipwrecks, but the visuals lack in getting that across.

For the demo, players have access to all four tools; in future updates, I am considering blocking those tools behind upgrades.

  • Switch Tool (E = Cycle Next) (1 = Scanner) (2 = Claw) (3 = Drill) (4 = Saw)

    • Scanner (1) - Can be used to get information on almost any object in the game.
    • Claw (2) - Can be used to move debris and collect loot by pulling them closer to the submarine.
    • Drill (3) - Is used to break BOLTS. BOLTS hold together other pieces of shipwreck.
    • Saw (4) - Is used to cut CHAINS and SEAWEED. CHAINS and SEAWEED restrict the submarine and loot from being moved.
    • Repair (R) - Start REPAIRING to increase your hull integrity (top-left). (The demo also lets you repair passively at operational bases.)
    • Flares (F) - Launching FLARES will help illuminate darker areas and will last about 10 seconds.
    • Emergency Buoys (V) - Deploying an EMERGENCY-BUOYS will provide a temporary boost to your buoyancy.
    • Drop-Weights (J) - Releasing stored DROP-WEIGHTS is an instant way to decrease density by 1.
  • Sonar(S) - Activating your sonar will reveal solid objects even in total darkness.

THREATS

CRUSH-DEPTH: Keep an eye on the depth gauge on the right side of your screen, your submarine needs to find upgrades before it can reach greater depths.

DEPTH-MINES / CAVESPIKES / DEBRIS: Your HULL INTEGRITY can be damaged by many objects in the abyss.

PHANTOMS: The abyss is a galley for its host; a dark energy feeds on its life force and manifests as dangerous entities.

  • Phantom Mariners: The most common ghostly threat in the abyss; they're easily scared of light, but given the chance, they will prove your crew's mortality.
  • Phantom Cephalapods: Even more dangerous when they attack directly; but they often choose to release a mist of INK towards the submarine. INK will limit the effectiveness of your light and allow other phantoms to draw close.
  • Phantom Whales: Will consume everyone on the submarine; but they're not interested in attacking the player and will only be a threat if you're in their way.

I plan to start updating my YouTube with this game more too! Sirens Abyss Playthrough with Commentary [SA: devlog 2]

More to Come:

I have a few key updates in mind, namely the addition of underwater divers along with extra gear, enemies, and biomes all of which will add to making more dynamic and engaging gameplay.
